Overview
Recovery is when adaptation to training actually happens. Without it, training stress accumulates without producing progress.
How exercise relates
- Light activity on rest days — sometimes called active recovery — is well tolerated by most people.
- Deliberate deload weeks are used in most structured programs.
General guidance
- Sleep and nutrition are the two highest-impact recovery levers.
- Persistent fatigue, declining performance, and poor sleep can signal inadequate recovery.
When to see a doctor
- Persistent fatigue that does not improve with rest
- Unexplained drops in performance alongside other symptoms
